Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the priest with the distribution of the precious Body and Blood of Christ at weekend Masses, holy days, and other special liturgies. This must is an action requiring the utmost reverence. Those who desire to in this ministry must have completed their sacraments of initiation, and be active practicing Catholics in good standing with the Church. New ministers must attend two 2 hour training sessions conducted by the Archdiocesan Office of Worship, after which you will receive a 5 year mandate from the Archbishop. A 2 hour refresher course is required after 5 year mandate expires. Some ministers also bring Holy Communion to the homebound and residents of Georgetown Manor and Summerfield nursing homes.
