"The marriage covenant, by which a man and a woman form with each other an intimate communion of life and love, has been founded and endowed with its own special laws by the Creator.
By its very nature it is ordered to the good of the couple, as well as to the generation and education of children. Christ the Lord raised marriage between the baptized to the dignity of a sacrament." (CCC 1660)
Congratulations on your decision to celebrate a commitment of life and love together in Holy Matrimony. Weddings are a special time of joy and promise for you, your families and the entire parish community. In view of the religious significance of marriage, a wedding celebration in a church setting must be entered into with prayerful planning.
Couples are asked to contact the parish soon after becoming engaged, but at least six months before the desired wedding date. Marriage preparation includes a pastoral prenuptial investigation, completion of an approved marriage preparation program as well as planning the wedding liturgy. The engaged couple must be practicing Catholics, or if only one individual is Catholic, that person must be a practicing Catholic, attending mass regularly.
Those who have been previously married may require a Declaration of Nullity or Annulment Decree from a diocesan tribunal before they are able to marry in the Catholic Church.
