"Sin is before all else an offense against God, a rupture of communion with him. At the same time it damages communion with the Church. For this reason conversion entails both God's forgiveness and reconciliation with the Church, which are expressed and accomplished liturgically by the sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation." CCC 1440

Confession, or the Sacrament of Reconciliation is the ordinary means by which sins are forgiven. If we are conscious of grave (very serious) sin, while we should still attend mass, the Church asks us to refrain from receiving Holy Communion until we have those sins forgiven in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

We should prepare ourselves for reconciliation by a good examination of conscience.

Attached you will find some good confession guides. Look them over. Pray with them. Then come and experience God's abundant mercy in this great sacrament. You'll be amazed how much lighter you will feel when your sins are forgiven by Christ himself.
